The Biomedical Research Institute (BRI), located in Rockville, MD is a non-profit company with a major interest in schistosomiasis, a deadly and neglected parasitic disease, afflicting over 200 million people living in tropical areas. The NIH-NIAID Schistosomiasis Resource Center (SRC) at BRI was created to serve the schistosomiasis research community by providing schistosome parasites, snails (the host vector) and related research supplies to U.S. and international scientists. We are currently seeking a full time Administrative Assistant that provides support to the SRC. Responsibilities include client correspondence; research reagents database management; shipping and export permit protocols. The Administrative Assistant is also trained in some of the laboratory methods that are essential to the maintenance of schistosomes and their snail hosts. This position requires excellent writing and organizational skills as well as the ability to effectively correspond with a variety of research laboratories that request materials weekly from the SRC.

Responsibilities include

  • Database management for snail inventory and client requests
  • Directing mailings and shipments, ensuring proper Import/Export documentation for international clients
  • Managing laboratory supplies (inventory and ordering)
  • Coordinating shipments with SRC technicians
  • Snail cultivation and other lab protocols


  • Highly organized and detail –oriented
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Self‐motivated and dependable, with the ability to handle a variety of tasks
  • Experience with Excel spreadsheets, Outlook
  • S. in a biological science discipline preferred
  • Biology laboratory experience a plus
