Laboratory Technician
NIH-NIAID Schistosomiasis Resource Center

The Biomedical Research Institute of Rockville, MD is home to the Schistosomiasis Resource Center (SRC), an NIH-funded laboratory that supplies parasite research materials to scientists in the U.S. and abroad. The SRC cultivates the three major species of snails that are the vector-host for Schistosoma spp, which is the cause of a devastating worm infection in over 300 million people living in tropical regions. We are currently seeking a laboratory technician to perform tasks that are essential to the maintenance of the parasite life cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Propagation and cultivation of snail colonies; microscopy
  • Animal facility protocols
  • Preparation of algae plates
  • Maintaining a database to monitor various parameters of the parasite life cycle
  • Participation in bi-annual SRC training courses as an Instructor

Qualifications

  • B.S. or B.A.
  • Laboratory experience or coursework
  • Ability to contribute to a variety of laboratory protocols with an interdependent team of technicians
  • Data collection and analysis
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
